Next June 24th-26th, Newcastle University will be hosting the first international conference on “Cultural Narratives of Crisis and Renewal”, a collaborative project between Newcastle, the University of Amsterdam (represented by Pablo Valdivia and Yolanda Rodríguez Pérez), the Universitat de Lleida, and the Universitat de València: a Marie Curie RISE grant has been assigned to the project. Four Latin American universities (Universidad Nacional 3 de febrero, Buenos Aires; Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, Lima; Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (Argentina); Universidad Austral de Chile, Valdivia) are also participating in the project, as appropriate to an initiative whose purpose is to examine «the cultural production and cultural practices in the context of societal crisis, on both sides of the Atlantic. Our aim is to establish a dialogue about the narratives on moments of crisis and images of renewal in Latin American and Iberian cultural production».
Keynote speaker at the conference will be Jean Franco, the first Professor of Latin American Literature in England (University of Essex, 1968) and author of several landmark books on Latin American literature (search her name in the UvA-Library catalogue for a selection of titles available in Amsterdam).
